7 Favorite Hollywood Web Inspirations for Photoshop Users

Hollywood spends some big bucks and brings in the world’s best talent to entertain us. Unfortunately, you don’t see all that talent reflected in everything Hollywood does. The stuff that does stand out from all the rest is usually ‘best in class.’

So how does all this impact Photoshop users? First of all, much of that great work you see involves Photoshop at some level. John Knoll, one of the originators of Photoshop, is an Academy Award winning special effects director. Secondly, all that great work can be quite inspiring from a creative perspective; as well as an exciting challenge.

Below are my seven favorite inspirational websites from Hollywood:

  1. Internet Movie Poster Awards - I never get bored looking at movie posters. Some are bad: some are average; and some are divine.
  2. Art of the Title - Inspiration in short snips of full motion. It’s amazing how much work has been put into the titles of many films (and TV shows ... see the next item).
  3. Video Copilot - I’ve written about Andrew Kramer here before. His After Effects tutorials are fun and entertaining, and his work is incredible. He recently worked on the title sequence for the new Fox show “Fringe” (which is a ‘can’t miss’ TV show for me).
  4. David Occhino Design - David creates full fonts based on custom fonts that have been created for Hollywood productions and movie logos. His work is beautiful and top quality.
  5. Quicktime Trailers - I try to stay away from this site during the work day. I can easily burn an hour watching trailers here.
  6. slashfilm.com - Cool film news and information site with lots of movie-related visuals and clips.
  7. fxguide - Personally I can’t get enough of these guys. They eat and breathe movie and TV special effects. They offer lots of how-to information that is full of ideas for Photoshop users. If you are interested in learning more about full motion special effects check out their online university FXPHD.

If you’re inspired by Hollywood like I am, or you want to add additional links to this post, please do. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
