Today is my birthday. I decided to give myself a couple of Photoshop related birthday gifts. So yesterday I went to amazon.com and ordered The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book for Digital Photographers by the Scott Kelby and Photoshop CS4 Channels & Masks one-on-one by Deke (I can just say Deke because there’s only one right?). I ordered for next day delivery so there was a happy amazon.com box at my front door before 10:00 AM.
These books are thick and full of color pictures. Since I haven't had a chance to read either book that’s about all I can say. Honestly isn’t that how creative people judge a book? How well designed is the cover and how many color pictures are inside? Both books are over 450 pages and Deke’s book comes DVD containing 3 hours of lynda.com videos (check out this sample).
Slightly more serious…I’m excited to get my hands on both of these books. Scott Kelby’s books are always full of very useful tips and workflow approaches. Deke’s book is focused on one of the most powerful and misunderstood capabilities of Photoshop. If Deke can’t explain this stuff and show me how to use it wisely then no one can.
If you want to surprise and delight a Photoshop user with a nice gift, I recommend both of these books. Of course I also recommend them for yourself. If you want to get something for me, a Tommy Bahama gift certificate would be greatly appreciated.
