I’m thrilled that I’m kicking off November with a perfect Photoshop alliance. I’m calling it the Photoshop CS4 “Trifecta.” Yes, I finally received my official copy of Photoshop CS4 and have it installed. I’ve been using it for a couple of days now; but I’m not jumping into this new frontier alone. Oh no, I’ve brought along my Photoshop friends, Ben Willmore and Deke McClelland.
Don’t be confused, this is not a review. It’s much too early for that – I’ve only put a few miles on the CS4. Plus, do I really know what I’m doing? Yes and no. Photoshop is not so changed that it feels like a new program, but there are changes and new functions (and a few things missing).
So to help me out, I purchased Deke’s Adobe Photoshop CS4 one-on-one and Ben’s Up to Speed: Photoshop CS4 books from Amazon.com. I didn’t just guess that these two books would good choices. I’ve been through the CS3 versions of both of these books to the point where the binding is completely broken. Ben’s CS4 is narrowly focused on what’s new in CS4. That’s great for a user like me, who doesn’t need a complete beginner’s perspective. Deke’s book is more of a general approach to learning Photoshop through a series of lessons. Though Deke’s book is great for beginners, his approach is always professional and top notch. I want to know how Deke takes advantages of what’s new in CS4, along with the old reliable approaches to getting your pixels to look the way you want.
I’ll let you know more about both books and Photoshop CS4 as I know more. You can look forward to new CS4 tutorials and goodies soon. If you have any negative or positive thoughts regarding CS4, post them here and let’s share. And don’t forget to take a few seconds to answer this week’s Camp Photoshop poll.
