Your head camp counselor went on a rant a couple of weeks ago about Adobe Bridge. The spark of that rant was the fact that Contact Sheet II was MIA in Photoshop CS4. I’m happy to report that Contact Sheet II, as well as seven other missing plug-ins, have surfaced as “Optional Plug-ins.” I guess when Adobe removes plug-ins and presents, it’s because they were optional in nature.
The MIA plug-ins and presents were always there in the Goodies folder in your Photoshop CS4 Install DVD (I double-checked, and, yes they are there). You can also download the batch directly from Adobe – if you’ve moved your install DVD to the top shelf in your storage room.
If you’re keeping score, the list below is what Adobe now calls “Optional”:
- Bigger Tiles
- Picture Package (ContactSheetII)
- ExtractPlus
- PatternMaker
- PhotomergeUI
- Web Photo Gallery (WebContactSheetII) plus presets:
- Script for Layer Comps to Web Photo Gallery
- Texture presets for Texturizer
I keep wondering who has ideas like this. It seems like Adobe could avoid some tech support calls by leaving these items where users have come to expect them. If Adobe felt things were getting bloated, they could offer a detailed tutorial on how to optimize and minimize Photoshop. Or how about during the installation process a big message could pop up asking “Would you like to install the ‘Optional Plug-ins and Presents?’” Noting that these were installed by default in Photoshop CS3.
Okay, I feel better for getting that rant out of my system. If only I could get someone at Adobe to listen … John Nack can you hear me?
